Balcony gardening: Red Ivy Leaf Geraniums still blooming in Fall
Today I want to talk about balcony gardening and show off our Red Ivy Leaf Geraniums. Believe it or not, they are still doing fantastic! In fact, they have been blooming non stop and grown much bigger. They finally started to trail down the railing baskets.
These beautiful Ivy Leaf Geraniums came home from a favorite nursery out of Toronto back in the Spring. I found pink and red ones. As it was still cold back then, they had to spend some time indoors. Transitioning from a greenhouse to a home with heat was a real challenge and a shock for these plants.
I did worry a lot about them until it finally got warmer and put them in our balcony. Only the Red ones survived. They did not grow as much as I expected.
I was dreaming and hoping for those beautiful trailing vines like you see in Austrian or Swiss window boxes.
Ivy Leaf Geraniums did not enjoy (and neither did I) the many heat waves we had this past Summer. They just survived.
As the time has come to start cleaning the balcony I am wondering if to winterize them like I did with the other Geraniums. Stay tuned!
Happy gardening!
